Let’s talk about MEAT! Not just any meat but cultured meat also known as clean meat, synthetic meat or vitro meat. I am not going to beat around the bush, but I love my meat. At the same time I do love animals and wildlife and guilt overflows when I crave for meat as I am not fancy about vegetables. Unfortunately I do not have what it takes to be a vegan.  Let’s start with how cultured meat is created. Muscle tissues from animal stem cells are grown in a lab instead of harvesting from livestock. This process is quite costly which there by makes the end product expensive. Although the first burger patty has already been created, cooked and consumed. It might take more time to refine this production which means it will not be on the shelves anytime soon. The biggest question in everyone’s mind is, will people actually except cultured meat as a substitute to actual meat. Since what’s currently happening in Sri Lanka is about the killing of a poor leopard, I decided to write my first blog post about my thoughts on this.  Let’s start with what happened, the leopard had come to the area where humans were residing, the residents had informed the wild life authorities and once they failed, the villagers battered the poor creature to death.  Did they attack the creature because the creature attacked them? Did they have to clobber this creature to death? Did they have to parade around the carcass of this animal? Why did the animal come to the village? These are just a few of the questions running in my mind.  Leopards are beautiful creatures that belong in the wild, they hunt to eat and survive. So what happens when we deforest and establish villages in their territory? It doesn’t take a scientist to answer this question.
